How to Make a Grey Moonstone Bracelet: A Beginner's Guide

Grey moonstone DIY bracelet kit with 3mm beads, gold spacers, letter charm and velvet tray

There's something calming about stringing tiny beads one by one. In this guide, we'll introduce grey moonstone, share what it's traditionally associated with, and walk you through making a delicate, personalised bracelet at home.

What is grey moonstone?

Grey moonstone is a natural stone from the feldspar family. It has a soft, smoky grey body and, when it catches the light, a gentle shimmer that can glow with a pale blue sheen. This glow, called adularescence, is what gives moonstone its dreamy, moonlit look. Because it's natural, every bead is slightly different in tone, translucency and sheen.

The traditional meaning of grey moonstone

For centuries, moonstone has been connected with the moon and its cycles. In crystal traditions, grey moonstone is often associated with:

  • Calm and balance: a reminder to slow down and find your rhythm.
  • Intuition: traditionally linked with trusting your inner voice.
  • New beginnings: the moon's cycles make it a popular symbol of fresh starts.
  • Gentle protection: often chosen as a comforting stone to keep close.

Many people wear grey moonstone as a personal reminder of these intentions. Please note these are traditional and symbolic meanings, not proven effects, and crystals are not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.

What you'll need

Everything below comes in our Grey Moonstone DIY Bracelet Kit:

  • Approx. 100–150 grey moonstone beads, 3mm
  • Approx. 10–15 gold-tone rhinestone spacer rings
  • 5 small gold-tone beads
  • 1 rhinestone letter charm in your chosen letter (A–Z)
  • 0.4mm clear elastic beading cord
  • 1 beading needle
  • 1 beige velvet beading tray (approx. 11 × 11cm)
  • Mini plastic tweezers

How to make your bracelet

  1. Measure your wrist. Wrap a soft tape measure around your wrist just above the wrist bone. The kit is designed for an approx. 16–17cm wrist.
  2. Plan your design. Lay your beads out in the velvet tray. The tray stops tiny beads from rolling away and lets you see the finished pattern before you string. Space the gold rhinestone spacers evenly between the moonstone beads.
  3. Prepare the cord. Cut a length of elastic cord about 10cm longer than your wrist. Gently stretch it a few times so your bracelet keeps its shape later. Thread one end through the beading needle.
  4. Secure the end. Clip the other end of the cord with a small clip or tape so beads don't slide off.
  5. Start stringing. Pick up beads with the tweezers and thread them on, following your design. Add the five gold beads and your letter charm in the centre.
  6. Check the fit. Wrap the strand around your wrist. Add or remove a few moonstone beads until it feels comfortable.
  7. Tie it off. Remove the needle, tie a secure surgeon's knot and pull it tight. Add a tiny dab of jewellery glue if you like, let it dry, then trim the ends and tuck the knot inside a nearby bead.

Tips for a beautiful finish

  • Look at the beads under natural light to find the ones with the prettiest blue sheen, and place them near the front.
  • Use the tweezers for the spacers and tiny gold beads. They're much easier to handle.
  • Roll your bracelet on and off your wrist rather than stretching it to help the elastic last longer.
  • Keep moonstone away from perfume, lotion and water to protect its natural shine.

Make it yours

Choose the initial of your own name, a loved one's or a special word to make your bracelet truly personal. It also makes a thoughtful handmade gift.
